History

The historical origin of our department is based on the department, has a first name “Science and Nature Information" department of the "Middle Teachers' School", which was started to admit students to train teachers for secondary schools and primary teacher schools at November 29, 1926. This department, which has three semesters in the 1930-1931 academic years, was organized as the "Physical and Natural Sciences" program in 1941, and the education period was increased to three years (six semesters). The education activities were continued on the "Physics-Chemistry Program" for two years since 1944. Then, the “Physics-Chemistry Program” was closed in 1946, when a new program called the "Department of Collective Courses" was opened. In addition, the related education program was reopened under the name of "Science and Natural Science" within the Department of Science to graduate teachers for secondary schools, with the opening of two departments called "Literature" and "Science" in the academic year of 1948-1949.

In 1968, the education period was arranged as the three years within the body of the "Department of Science and Natural Sciences", and then it was increased to four years in the 1978-1979 academic years. Then, in 1982, it was organized for four years under the name of "Physics Education Department" and under the "Department of Science Education" to meet the needs of high school physics teachers with the Higher Education Law Number of 2547. In this department, which provided education in this way until 1998, a five-year non-thesis master's program was implemented between 1998–2014 academic years. After the year 2014, the education period was again four years. In our Physics Education Department program, which is constantly changing according to the current needs and requirements; renovation, change and update works were carried out in 1998, 2007, 2014, 2018, and 2021.
